Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has stated:“The development of tribal areas and welfare of our tribal brothers and sisters is essential to making India a developed nation. We will ensure that every benefit reaches even the remotest tribal settlement.” Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu has emphasised:“India will only become truly developed when tribal communities prosper and are empowered.”.
Tribal communities form a significant part of India’s population (5%-8%) and inhabit geographically isolated and economically underserved areas, many of which are identified as aspirational districts requiring focused intervention. Notified tribal aspirational districts include Vizianagaram, Namsai, Chamba, Mamit, Raichur, Barwani, Gadchiroli, Balrampur, Bastar, Sukma, Khunti, Simdega, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and others across Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and northeastern states
CSR investment in tribal areas is explicitly permitted under MCA Schedule-VII and supported by constitutional provisions in the Fifth and Sixth Schedules, as well as Article46 (promotion of educational and economic interests of Scheduled Tribes). MCA CSR Portal data for FY 2024–25 shows that CSR expenditure on tribal development, livelihoods, and rural infrastructure by top companies exceeded ₹1,800–₹2,000 crore. Public Sector Enterprises directed a large share of their CSR budgets to hightribalpopulation states. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs received a record ₹10,237 crore budgetary allocation in 2024–25, reflecting a strong policy shift towards tribal welfare. Key programmes include PMJANMAN for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups, DAJGUA for saturation of infrastructure gaps in over 63,000 tribal villages (₹80,000 crore outlay), Eklavya Model Residential Schools, PMDevINE, NESIDS, and PM Van Dhan Yojana.
The nodal organisation dedicated for tribal development, TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India) is an important institutional partner in this mission. It works to secure fair prices for Minor Forest Produce through Minimum Support Price mechanisms, develops Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, runs the TRIFOOD scheme, promotes skill development, and supports tribal artisans and entrepreneurs in accessing wider markets. Such initiatives generate sustainable livelihoods, preserve tribal heritage, and open CSR collaboration opportunities.
NCCSR 2025 will serve as a catalyst to bring together stakeholders, share knowledge, and showcase good practices in tribal CSR. It will nudge corporate recognition of impactful models, highlight effective CSR spend in tribal regions, and promote a socio-economic ongoing process for inclusive growth. Through awards, benchmarking, and handholding, the platform will encourage scale-up and replication of successful approaches.
Guided by “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” and fully aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, NCCSR 2025 will energise the whole CSR ecosystem with an inclusive approach, ensuring tribal development is mainstreamed into India’s growth story.
To realize this vision, NCCSR 2025 will host:
